MEDIATION

Why Mediation?

It is generally better if both parties can sort out together the issues that need to be agreed. It can help to reduce tension and hostility. It can be especially helpful in sorting out arrangements for the children.

However Mediation may not suit everyone or every case and couple. It can only work if both parties wish to deal matters amicably and have an element of trust in one another that each will honestly share all relevant information during the mediation. This is important particularly in relation to financial issues where disclosure of financial information is relied upon to arrive at a fair solution.

Mediators can give general information about the legal system and law. They are impartial and cannot give individual advice about your legal rights or the best course of action for you. Even during mediation it may be necessary to take a solicitor’s advice on any agreement that has been reached.
